Friendship Exchange Program

"Everywhere everyplace everything is the best Dojo" Shioda Gozo said

The Friendship Exchange Program is simply a travel program where we get a chance to meet new folks who share an interest in aikido and the Yoshinkan method. The technical beauty and scientific power of Yoshinkan Aikido speaks for itself. And anywhere it is showcased there is an immediate interest.

The genesis of this program came during the First International Instructor’s Course at the Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo in 1991. Instructor candidates were directed to contact instructors abroad to increase communication and contacts within the aikido community.

Shioda Soke was clear in his desire to see Yoshinkan Aikido grow internationally and we have tried hard to further this goal. The Friendship Exchange Program is now in it’s seventh year and has been quite successful.

There are now established, regular demonstrations and friendship exchanges at:

The US/Japan EXPO in Los Angeles
The Festival of Kings, Maui, Hawaii
Ho Chi Minh University, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Chiang Mai University, Chiang Mai, Thailand (link to CMU profile)
Aikan Dojo, Medford, Oregon
Kuala Lampur, Malaysia
The World Kobudo Federation annual World Congress Vienna, Austria, May 2000

This Friendship Exchange Program extends an invitation to all to visit us here...

(see our California host program, the Budo Today Series, for our stellar list of guest instructor seminars and immersion camps)...and if there is any contact info you may need for the above areas please e-mail us with any request!

In every case we have found the experience to share budo with these different and varied cultural groups fantastic. It really highlights Shioda Sensei’s feeling that aikido is a human thing. If you can visit any of these regions...go! You won’t be disappointed!
